For those of you who get (and read) our updates, you’ll know that we’re always adding to our core solution and we share that love with all our clients. We’re constantly adding to the functionality available to you and your users. Once we successfully develop and test a tool, it’s made live for all to use and benefit from.
We can’t take all the credit for the innovation: some of that goes to the 40+ Districts we manage across this fair land, who see a need and approach us with their ideas. For example, take Campbell River, a relatively small district on beautiful Vancouver Island, right here in BC. Campbell River asked us about the possibility of developing a Student Portfolio, and we jumped at the chance.
Campbell River wanted a place for students to display their work and share it within a safe, controllable environment. SharePoint, of course, provided us with the foundation, and a crack team from both Campbell River and Scholantis was soon assembled. The goal was to prove the concept, test it and provide real-world feedback to our development team in Vancouver.
The now active (but still being refined) Student Portfolio is now available to all clients using our Portal edition. With a blog template as its root, the Student Portfolio can display documents, photos, videos and links on all types of social media posts. Parents, teachers and even grandparents can log on, browse the work and leave comments. Teachers can also log on and post, and can manage content if needed. Our latest update brings a new look and a great experience on tablets and smartphones.
In fact, teachers are posting rubrics onto student portfolios and encouraging parents to log on and comment. In doing so, parents at Campbell River are becoming much more engaged in the teaching process. There’s more development work to be done, but the project is officially a success.
Find out more about Student Portfolio’s capabilities by watching our demo video. We’re encouraging Districts to use the tool to help iron out any creases — right now, it’s free to use. Once we’ve got it ship shape (forgive the sailing references – the Scholantis team went dinghy sailing a few weeks ago – hilarity ensued) we envision a budget-friendly $1/$2 per student per year, depending on the size of the District. So what are you waiting for? Get in touch to start your District pilot and be part of the ongoing development process.
The Student Portfolio is one of many examples of the development work that Scholantis does to improve usability for all users. We recently added functionality to help Districts become compliant with new spam legislation (CASL).
Our thanks to the IT team at Campbell River and all those who are currently using the Student Portfolio functionality.
